She was engaged to be married to Gunnar Frederiksen, the son of a wealthy family in Melbu. However her mother-in-law to be, the carismatic Maren Frederiksen, recognized Kirsten’s vocal talent and enabled her to travel to Stockholm and study voice. The rest is history.
Today she is in fact more famous than she was in her lifetime, and the name Kirsten Flagstad ranks alongside those of the greatest of legendary and immortal singers. The master class will be held in the grand old mansion (now a museum) in which Kirsten lived in Melbu.
